-- Captain America

Early life

Born on July 22nd, 1919, Steve Rogers grew up in one of the poorer districts of Brooklyn with his immigrant father, James, and mother, Sarah. As a child, Steve was frequently bullied by the boys that lived in his area due to his frailty. However, he stayed determined and always continued to excel in his grades and developed a unique interest in art and writing.

Project: Rebirth

In 1939, World War II had begun. By 1942, the United States had entered into the war. Soldiers were bring drafted into the army left and right. Steve, now 23, wanted to participate in the war, but was rejected due to his frail body. However, his determination got the attention of Dr. Abraham Erskine, who had just recently created a performance-enhancing compound dubbed the Super-Soldier Serum. Erskine offered Steve a chance at getting enlisted, and he joined Project: Rebirth, which would turn him into the ultimate soldier. The experiment is a success and Steve is turned into the world's first Super-Soldier. However, a Nazi spy that had been sent to halt the project then shot and killed Erskine and destroyed the machine with the Super-Soldier formula within it and escaped. Steve chased after the spy and captured him.

Becoming Captain America

Afterwards, with Steve being the only super-soldier that could be manufactured, they decided to make him the best soldier yet, and, with assistance from Rebirth head of engineering, Howard Stark, and Steve's close friend, Peggy Carter, Steve donned the persona of Captain America. Initially, Steve was given a simple aluminum shield that was shaped like a triangular badge, but after it was damaged in battle, he was given a newer, disk-shaped one made out of the indestructible metal vibranium. Afterwards, Captain America's heroics got the attention of Nazi terrorist the Red Skull, the leader of the Nazi side organization H.Y.D.R.A. Captain America and the Red Skull would have several run ins and confrontations as time passed.

Suspended Out of Time

By 1945, the war was coming to an end. The Allies were on the verge of victory over the Axis. H.Y.D.R.A. was getting desperate. With the recent death of Adolf Hitler, the Red Skull was left in charge of both the Nazi forces and H.Y.D.R.A. In a desperate attempt to wipe out the United States and weaken the Allies, the Red Skull stole some early notes of Dr. Robert Oppenheimer's atomic bomb. H.Y.D.R.A. built a prototype design of the bomb and launched it at America. However, Steve got word of it and went after the Red Skull. Unable to catch the Skull and disarm the bomb at the same time, Steve was forced to go with the bomb as it launched. Managing to separate the defective warhead from the actual rocket with his shield, Steve was sent plummeting into the Arctic Ocean below. There, his body froze and he became trapped in a state of suspended animation, all while being kept alive by the Super-Soldier Serum in his veins. As the world mourned the loss of Captain America, Howard Stark and Peggy Carter held out hope that he was still alive. Steve would stay trapped in the ice for a little more than 60 years.

Resurrection and Joining the Avengers

When the anti-terrorist agency S.H.I.E.L.D. detected a dormant nuclear device in the the North Atlantic, they discovered Captain America. He was defrosted and awakened.
