History

Quote1 Daredevil came to us for help, I don't care how rich Fisk is, no one can totally erase their past. Somewhere out there there has to be a piece of paper, a witness. The truth... Quote2
Karen Page

Early Years

Karen Page, born in Fagan Corners, Vermont around early 1983, was the daughter of Paxton and Penelope Page and the older sister of Kevin Page. Not long after the death of her brother in a car accident which ridden her with guilt for being under the influence of both drugs and alcohol, as well as having a relationship with a drug dealer who tried to kill her brother. Wishing to unburden her parents since Kevin's passing, Page moved from Vermont to study and work in New York City in an attempt to start a better life.

Karen eventually got a job at the financial department at Union Allied Construction around early 2009, which oversaw government contracts. In the aftermath of the Battle of New York the following year since she first worked at Union Allied, Karen rose through the ranks as the secretary of its chief accountant, with coordination of pension claims being one of her tasks right. Unfortunately, Karen was disillusioned with her well-paying job when she eventually saw the true colors of her company having caught the illicit activities and money laundering operations which the organization has been secretly green lighting in the past few years.

After almost being framed and abandoned as a scapegoat by her own superiors, Karen left the corporation and in doing so, became the secretary and the former office manager for Nelson and Murdock, who saved her from being arrested for a crime she never committed. Along with its lawyers Foggy Nelson and Matt Murdock and along with journalist Ben Urich, Karen was instrumental in the effort to bring Wilson Fisk to justice, as much that she was responsible for killing Fisk's right hand man, James Wesley, when the latter had kidnapped her. While working for Nelson and Murdock, Page came into contact with Frank Castle, whom she helped defend in court after discovering and investigating the truth behind his family's death.

Publishing the Truth

Taking a break from her position as manager in Nelson and Murdock, Page was employed into New York Bulletin by Mitchell Ellison through Urich's recommendation, whom Ellison and Urich were able to see the journalistic value and integrity in Karen's heart after helping the latter and Daredevil with ensuring the first fall of the Kingpin. When Nelson and Murdock fell apart and Karen's relationship with Matt started crumbling, Karen joined the New York Bulletin with the intention of writing Castle's true story and succeeding Urich who recently transferred to the Daily Bugle; however, during her investigation, she was kidnapped by Ray Schoonover and saved by Castle.

Later, the Hand also kidnapped Page among other people whom the Daredevil had saved in the past, but was thankfully rescued by the hero himself, an incident which eventually led to Murdock revealing to Karen that he was Daredevil. Karen's trust towards Matt would resurface and would further solidify after Matt has revealed his greatest secret to her as Daredevil, and in no time has the two slowly and surely rekindled their love and care for each other ever since they broke off their engagement as much as Karen grows her reputation as a reputable, kindhearted, and truth-seeking journalist for the Bulletin throughout the years who believed in the light that heroism can bring to the people.

Ultimate War

A few years have passed in 2015, various heroes across the globe whom Karen had found herself acquainted with, especially the Defenders, have come off to face the very notorious and dangerous Crime Syndicate of New York, a formerly clandestine large gang and criminal organization consisting the state of New York's deadliest and malevolent criminals, led by the Kingpin, along with several terrorist organizations whom they made dealings with since the past year, including the likes of A.I.M. forces and the Ten Rings.

The heroes had become triumphant against the syndicate as Karen had bravely helped them save and evacuate other civilians as they could by sheltering them at the nearby Clinton Mission Shelter, but at the cost of many that they failed to protect, which included Karen herself, who died at the hands of the Devil's most twisted and sadistic foe, Bullseye, as an act of saving her most special loved one from getting killed in the mercenary's last-second attempt to get back at the weakened hero. Bullseye took Daredevil's Billy Club and threw it at Daredevil as a killing weapon, but Karen intercepted it with her body, dying in his place. Karen died in Matt's arms, who grieved the loss of his close friend and beloved. Soon afterward, an enraged and determined Daredevil defeated Bullseye, paralyzing the latter as the Devil of Hell's Kitchen had beaten and kicked the assassin from a high building rooftop plummeting down below.

An Inspiring Legacy

Although Daredevil and the Defenders weren't able to put Fisk behind bars once more, they were successful in taking down the entire foundation of the Kingpin's Criminal Empire in the very end of the war, but at cost of almost losing his own life, putting him in a comatose state that lasted for almost two weeks, with his secret identity having kept secured by the help of his long-time ally that was the former notorious night nurse of Metro General Hospital, his and Karen's good friend Claire Temple, while he continuously recovers at the time in grief of losing Karen just to save him from the face of death.

In the following month, Karen's funeral was attended by several friends and family members including her own estranged parents, Matt Murdock (whom wrote and presented a eulogy) and Foggy Nelson, Claire Temple, Peter Parker, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Ben Urich, and many others who knew her personally. Despite this loss that he had to painfully accept for the rest of his life after Karen's death, Murdock was able to be strongly motivated by Karen's last words and advice for him as both Daredevil and Murdock. Additionally, Ben Urich and his wife Doris had adopted a toddler named Timothy "Timmy" Lange, whom they learned were rescued by Karen in her apartment floor moments before her selfless sacrifice.

Having come across her drafts and unpublished articles from her laptop and personal hard drive, Ben would publish it in her name as her articles would still to this day, mostly receive praise and recognition due to her truthful, purposeful, and optimistic take on superheroes even after the controversy which Ultimate War had brought on the very figures whom she worked with and greatly respected for years, as they even revered her as a hero greater than they could possibly be nor imagine. Karen's pieces even inspired and further reaffirmed the once aspiring actress Mary Jane Watson to become more confident in continuing to pursue a degree and career in journalism, which coincidentally enough, led her to eventually work with Ben Urich as his new student figure and somehow her spiritual successor, the same way Karen had worked hand-in-hand with Urich.
