Early Years
Anna Marie "Annie" Carlyle was born around mid-1983 to young misguided couple Owen and Priscilla Carlyle, both recovering drug addicts, somewhere in Caldecott County, Mississippi. Due to his parents being deemed unsuitable to fully take responsibility in raising their child, Annie's aunt Carrie D'Ancanto volunteered to move in their residence in order to look after for both her sister, brother-in-law, and Annie herself. One weekend when she was in her early adolescence, Annie felt like she was on the "top of the world," having the chance to have her first kiss with her first love while they were both inside her house. As they their lips touched, her mutant powers of absorbing others' life energy and psyche with mere skin-to-skin contact have manifested and he ended up in a coma for three weeks. Mortified and fearing what she has become, Annie ran away from home, much to her parents' angst of concern on her sudden disappearance. Annie's parents tried to find her at first, only for the parents of Annie's crush angrily informing them what she had done to their son, revealing their daughter's mutation nature which unfortunately scared them.
Mutant of Interest
Running away to the northern regions as far away as she could, Annie met the mutant only known as Logan (who still hasn't joined or met the X-Men at the time), after meeting him in Canada. Her encounter with Logan had inevitably led the two to encounter the mutant supremacist Brotherhood, whom its leader Magneto and its prominent member Mystique had both persuaded her into joining their ranks by revealing the news that her parents had called on the authorities to bring her in considering how deadly she as, breaking her heart after hearing how her parents and peers' have now seen her: "some kind of monster." Joining the Brotherhood out of Mystique's emotional deception and Magneto's promise to help her improve her powers in a less lethal manner, she was actually recruited by them intentionally in order to manipulate her fragile emotions into using her weapons against their greatest enemy: humankind. Following with their new plan, the brotherhood had set up a machine built by the Brotherhood's greatest minds and placed it at the top of Times Square, planning to use the it to mutate a segment of New York City's population into mutants once Rogue gives off a portion her power to it.
However, much to the Brotherhood's chagrin and annoyance, that fateful day was also when Annie had met the heroic X-Men for the very first time, who pretty much caught her attention the very moment she laid eyes on the heroic team as arrived just in time to intervene the Brotherhood's mission. The Brotherhood have boded enough time to overwhelm the X-Men due to their strength in numbers, though Annie's hesitation to fully power the machine was her and her group's undoing, causing the Brotherhood's plan to fail by the last minute, especially after Annie's mind was telepathically dazed by Marvel Girl, making Annie question the group's truest of intentions. Knowing their plan was already foiled without Annie's full cooperation along with the subsequent arrival of S.H.I.E.L.D. operatives, the Brotherhood escaped the scene by splitting up back to their headquarters. Unfortunate for Annie and some of their fellow novel comrades, they didn't know were their headquarters was, and after they were abandoned by their superiors they were left under the apprehension and custody of S.H.I.E.L.D. Director Nick Fury who had them imprisoned at the Triskelion.
Unwanted Pardon
Annie was temporarily under S.H.I.E.L.D.'s custody for an entire week, though she was given nicer, more privileged and less abusive treatment due to her being underaged. She was intended to be kept there for a while until the agency figures out a way on what to do with the "Rogue one," referring to Annie, since Fury revealed that Annie's parents had hatefully disowned her after learning she was a "freak," and does not want her back in the family. With her cheery personality and somewhat flirty impression, she conveniently made acquaintances with other detained mutants such as the nurturing precognitive Irene Adler and the initially charismatic "professional" thief Remy LeBeau, who covertly took a liking to her despite acting harsh and cold towards her every time they meet during meal times. The next week has passed, and what Irene had foreseen has come true. The facility was infiltrated by the Brotherhood, who finally came to free the very brethren and sistren they've reluctantly abandoned during the Times Square incident.
During the break-in, the Brotherhood was led by Mystique as she secretly unlocked all the cells of the mutant wing, causing a messy havoc within the facility which distracted the guards from dealing with the mutant terrorists. Releasing their teammates, which revealed that Adler was one of them, and recruiting new ones among the prisoners, Annie was perplexed when LeBeau told her that she doesn't have to join them again if she doesn't want it, encouraging her to choose her own side instead of letting other chose it for her, reminding that it's her life anyways. Before she could've respond, however, LeBeau suddenly disappeared, escaping the prison on his own. Moved by the thief's last words, Annie decided to stay within the confinements of her own cell, telling Irene, Mystique and the Brotherhood that they don't want to harm or kill anyone for her own sake, be it humans or fellow mutants. The Brotherhood were greatly exasperated at her decision, and were forced to leave the Triskelion without who was once their greatest ally after S.H.I.E.L.D. had sent their armed back-ups to maintain order within the facility. With Fury witnessing Annie's decision through the facility's surveillance system, she was released with Fury knowing who exactly she needs, personally sending her to the Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters, as her new home and haven.
Joining the X-Men
Entering Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters, Annie was surprised that Professor Charles Xavier was waiting and expecting for her arrival via Cerebro. Initially wanting to go back to her family, Xavier sorrowfully explained how her parents have abandoned her, before trying to uplift her spirits after revealing that her concerned aunt Carrie was the one who wept and contacted the Professor to try and take her under his wing, believing that mutant pacifist would be better in raising and teaching her than both the parents who now disowned her and herself, an aunt who tried her best to look after Annie but couldn't. Breaking down in tears due realizing how her lethal mutant nature had pushed her loved ones away, Annie was comforted by the warm-hearted professor, promising that he would do whatever it takes in order to protect and help her control her powers without harming anyone and instead shift it into a humane power that she could use to protect not only herself, but also others, offering her a place in the X-Men once her time comes.
Welcoming Annie within the safety of the X-Mansion, Xavier also assured Annie that she wouldn't be treated the way she is now perceived back at her old home, and that her new life at the mansion would be full of people who are just like her, a mutant. Living with the new house of her newfound family, he befriended several mutants including Xavier himself, Professor Warren Worthington II, and her old friend Logan after he had since joined the X-Men, and several fellow students such as seniors Scott Summers, Hank McCoy, Ororo Munroe, Lorna Dane, and Jean Grey, though she would also befriend students and trainees of the same age group as hers, which included Warren Worthington III, Bobby Drake, Kitty Pryde, Piotr "Peter" Rasputin, and Kurt Wagner, whom Rogue had developed a close sibling-like relationship with, and vice versa. After a few years of classes and training sessions, Annie was in her early adult years when she first joined the X-Men in their missions and adventures, embracing the very cold and reclusive word her family, friends, and enemies alike had always described her and turned it into a far bolder, more positive, and more valiant codename: Rogue.
Gambling with Fate
On a summer day during the 2000s, the X-Men were miraculously on a break from any crime-fighting activity, in which Annie and a few of her teammates were permitted to go on a trip to New Orleans riding a rented van, especially nearby the Mississippi River, the very place which reminded Annie of her childhood home. Unbeknownst to Annie, that night was the night she crossed paths with Remy LeBeau, Gambit, for the second time. Upon their reunion Remy claimed that no longer goes by his known alias and thievery career, and was trying to start over a new life in his hometown. Throughout the day, Remy practically served as their "tour guide," which made this vacation of the younger X-Men even more interesting. Despite the sudden unexpectedly circumstances of their first meeting outside of imprisonment, Rogue and Gambit were attracted to each other throughout the night, though none of them immediately admitted to the strange feeling they were experiencing, and instead masqueraded their true lingering emotions through teases and banters as if they were both playing hard to get with one another throughout their trips across the city of New Orleans, Louisiana.
Rogue and Gambit's complicated more-than-just-friendly relationship had its miserable shakeups within one day, much thanks to both her inability to control her absorption power and his redundant charisma and deceptive dishonesty, which Annie had dealt with first-hand when she and the X-Men were abruptly ambushed by Gambit's "secret society," the infamously-notorious Thieves Guild. Betrayed by someone who she thought she could trust, Rogue lost her calm, rendering her to lost control of her powers under the influence of her own rage. Unfortunate for her, Remy was able to swiftly knock her out with a small kinetic blast, carrying her unconscious body. The rest of the X-Men were too late to face the combat-savvy thieves and defend Rogue, having been overwhelmed by their sharp and keen adaptability to fight in the dark which led the X-Men into getting knocked down by Gambit's crew by the end of their initial encounter.
Once they were mostly knocked out, Rogue and the other found themselves inside a warehouse, surrounded by Remy and the Thieves, explaining that they were simply hired to capture them under the request of none other than the Brotherhood, in which Mystique revealed herself as a representative in a mission to recruit them into their supremacy so they could still be given a chance to be shown a better world for mutantkind. Expanding their methods to convince the X-Men, it was Mystique's companion Destiny who used her powers to "show" each and every one a grim future without the unity of all mutants: a future full of death, despair, darkness, and destruction of their own kind. Helpless and afraid under the influence of Destiny's convincing visions, the X-Men were on the verge of losing everything that they've fought for as fear drives them to question their purpose and effectivity as an X-Man. Hope was lost for Rogue and her teammates, until the unexpected has happened to them. Gambit had a changed of heart, though he made the excuse that he simply weren't in favor of the Brotherhood's "creepy cultist prophetic shenanigans" instead of him admitting of the truth behind his reason for changing sides.
Thanks to Gambit's interference, the X-Men got enough help that they needed to turn the tides into their favor, with Gambit now helping the mutants fight both his own fellow thieves and the Brotherhood as a way to compensate his betrayal and deception to the young heroes, especially to Rogue, whom he tried to apologize to after escaping from the warehouse. Despite Remy's sincerity, Annie was truly broken by his unforgivable treachery, making her to ruthlessly refrain him from explaining further. Gambit was just as crushed in return, though he had no other choice but to respect her disheartening decision, himself believing that he deserved it. The X-Men stealthily left New Orleans riding their rented van, thanks to Jean's protective psionic shields who maintained their departure as undetected as possible, while a dejected Remy stares at Rogue inside the van until they left, simply awaiting his punishment at the hands of his own fellow thieves. On their way back to Westchester by the next night, Annie's severe downheartedness couldn't be more apparent due to her silence as her teammates tried to comfort and condole her unendurable sorrow, with Rogue herself bitterly hoping that she'd never see or hear from Remy ever again after knowing what kind of a person he really was, or at least she thought she did.
Later on in one of her adventures as a highly-regarded member of the X-Men (circa late 2000s), Rogue found herself deeply infatuated with the fellow young and runaway mutant telepath Quentin Quire after the X-Men tried recruiting and enrolling runaways like him into the student body of the Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters, since his powers include somehow being immune to Rogue's deadly touch. The two secretly formed an intimate relationship, though it unfortunately came to a bitter end due to reasons Annie being not comfortable enough to tell how and why her first love had left her along with the school and mansion itself afterwards. Recalling her memories later on, Rogue later revealed that Quentin was slowly losing his powers every second he touches Annie, thus proving that he wasn't fully immune with Annie's touch after all, unavoidably leading to the painful end of their once to be a safe and cherishable bond before leaving the mansion on his own terms to try and live a normal life as a mutant blending in with the rest of humanity.
Ultimate War
When the mysterious and diabolical Movement Alliance conducted a series of massive terrorist attacks all over the world destroying several famous and sacred landmarks, killing over 1,500 people on the very first day of their worldwide assault. Consequently, all the Movement's opposing adversaries, the heroes, were united into creating their own Ultimate Alliance, in order to stop and prevent the Movement from commencing its schemes upon world domination and authoritarian rule, before its too late. For the first time in her, Annie and her teammates have never seen a conflict this atrocious and appalling and as they watch the ongoing news being reported across the world, especially after seeing some of her new family and other innocent mutants in danger.
As the attacks all over the world have continued for days and then weeks, more and more casualties are sadly, starting to increase in numbers, due to the extreme terrorism and serious devastation, continuously committed by the conflict between the Movement Alliance and its seemingly unstoppable forces against the combined forces heroes and anti-heroes of the world, the Ultimate Alliance, who are not stopping their fight against the villains until they find a way to make them pay for their irreversible actions and restore back peace in the entire world. Witnessing many deaths dropping by the hour, an enraged and broken Rogue was determined in stopping, especially the Brotherhood, who was now under the leadership by Mister Sinister. Due to a few misunderstandings, Rogue used her powers on Magneto, almost killing him after he and a few of his surviving loyalists came to seek the X-Men's help at the underground headquarters of the X-Mansion, only to be stopped by Wolverine who sensed the Brotherhood's true intentions. Setting their differences aside, Rogue and the rest of the X-Men sided momentarily forces with Magneto's Brotherhood as the core members plan how to take out and defeat Sinister's Brotherhood faction, one of the core factors in forming the Movement.
In the end of Sinister's short-lived reign, the villain was eventually founded by the mutant alliance (both Magneto's Brotherhood and the X-Men) once again in Genosha, after a dying Archangel threw a tracker on him without him noticing it, earlier during their battle. In the end, all of Sinister's clones were killed mostly by the overly-empowered Rogue, who revealed she had been absorbing most of her fallen mutants' powers and abilities (e.g. Pyro, Archangel, and a clone of Mister Sinister), and he as well was finally defeated after he was defenseless after being surrounded by the X-Men and the Brotherhood, who used all their mightiest strength and powers against him that subsequently disintegrated the villain in the process, killing Mister Sinister and ending his tyranny in several countries all over the world and the Ultimate War itself once and for all.
Touch by Touch
In the aftermath of Ultimate War, Rogue and the X-Men returned to the X-Mansion where she rested from exhaustion, though afterwards she spent her time alone as she traveled across New York City (most frequently the nearest parks, lakes, and beaches which reminds her of her hometown), contemplating in the midst of loneliness, whether she would get the chance to find anyone who she could interact with, and touch without having to harm them, just like how Kitty and Peter had finally hit it off after all those years. On this lonely night, Annie reminisces her last lover Quentin Quire, whom moments were something she found unforgettable despite her moments with him have happened almost more than five years ago, all because he was the last person Rogue was able to get close with and touch at the same time, right until he left her and the mansion altogether due to finding out that he wasn't fully immune by Rogue's life-absorbing touch.
In her unending sessions of self-reflection, her moment was suddenly interrupted by the arrival of the infamous Prince of Thieves himself, Gambit. Finding his way to Annie, she ironically finds out the tense situation that the former was being hunted by Thieves Guild society since he secretly helped out the X-Men against Mister Sinister's Movement in the final days of Ultimate War, something that Annie was aware of but decided not to remember until that night, when she had to help out a troubled and wounded Gambit as they spent most of the time either anonymously hiding in a rented motel, or investigating why the Guild wanted to kill him since he only helped the X-Men. Upon the two's second incidental yet infatuating meeting, Gambit revealed that he was now capable of using his powers in such a way that the kinetic energy he had been harnessing and manipulating allowed him to physically touch Rogue without her powers being activated. While this revelation was not something they had ever expected in their lifetimes, the outcast Gambit confessed the truth that he was glad he had found someone who isn't after his head.
Annie reciprocated the same thought, but her feelings were still the same the way she felt about him: hurt and betrayed. In a truth that she didn't want to open up, Annie truly missed Gambit, but their last encounter—combined with the unbearable trauma her she but mostly teammates had gone during Ultimate War—has diminished the chances for her to able to trust someone like him all over again. Despite their heartfelt reunion battling the Thieves Guild, Gambit has always been aware of his unforgettable consequences in the past, not denying the mischiefs and mishaps he had brought to her and her family. While he didn't ask for forgiveness, Gambit sincerely apologized to her once more after choosing to deal with the Guild out of her utmost protection.
Sensing his hidden guilt, Annie was nevertheless determined to help him one last time not as the magnetic and flawless Gambit, but as the selfless and faulty Remy, whom she grew to adore and appreciate more because she gets to see more of his genuine side of character. The two continued to investigate and battle against the Thieves Guild de facto leader Castillo Drake, discovering that his motives of taking out Remy was merely due to his personal prejudice against mutants ruining the guild's reputation since Ultimate War. As Drake was defeated and subsequently banished from the Guild by, Gambit was welcomed back into their ranks. To Gambit's surprise, he was enthusiastic into rejoining them, only to feel conflicted when he thought of Annie. Not wanting him to worry, Annie reassured him with a passionate and not-so-deadly kiss, simply hoping to him that they'd keep in touch despite their opposite worlds, before Gambit and the Guild fled and hid from the authorities in the meantime.

Powers
Homo Superior Physiology: Rogue is a mutant who can absorb the powers, energies, memories, knowledge, talents, personality, and physical abilities (whether superhuman or not) of another human being (or members of some sentient alien races) through physical contact of her skin with the skin of the other person. She is not limited to absorbing superhuman abilities: for example, she has absorbed the strength, agility, and sharp reflexes of an enhanced human. She can also absorb psionic abilities. In absorbing another person's memories Rogue also gains the emotional responses connected to them. For the transfer of abilities to be accomplished, Rogue’s skin must contact the skin of her victim. Rogue can only absorb abilities and memories from living organic beings. She can possess the powers of several superhuman persons at once. No upper limit has yet been determined for the number of superhuman beings whose power she can maintain simultaneously, or for the amount of power that she can absorb.

Trivia
- Much like her mainstream counterpart, Rogue is a devout Baptist, sharing this similar religious trait with her friend, teammate, and brother figure, Nightcrawler, who on the other hand is a devout Catholic.
- At some point during Bobby Drake's brief "experimental phase" which occurred after him coming out as gay, Rogue was one of the few women who slept with him. Besides the two, no one else knew the full details considering how lethal Rogue's abilities are through skin-to-skin contact, with their friends only knowing than they in fact "have done it once, or twice."
